Piedmont is about 25 miles east of Gadsden and Interstate Highway I-59, about 25 miles north of Anniston and Interstate Highway I-20. We are about 90 miles east of Birmingham, and about 90 miles west of Atlanta.

Outdoor recreation opportunities are plentiful in the area.

Weiss Lake, Lake Neely Henry, and the Coosa River are nearby, as well as numerous creeks and streams. Duggar Mountain Wilderness Area, Talladega National Forest, and ChoccoloccoWildlife Management Area provide hunting, fishing, and camping. Day to day operation of the city government is overseen by a city administrator. The city has a full service recreation department with a sports complex and a civic center. There are three parks with walking tracks and playground facilities. In addition to these parks, there is Alabama's first Rails to Trails project, the Chief Ladiga Trail. Piedmont's civic clubs include Lions Club, Lioness Club, American Legion, V.F.W., Jaycees, Oddfellows, and other topical, historical, and study clubs.
